NYC Tap Dance Summer Intensive – Tap Spectacular
➡ Ages 8-25
Come tap with us on the streets of the “Dance Capitol of the World”! If your Broadway dreams include improving and refining your tap skills, “The Tap Spectacular” is the place to make those dreams come true. Tap, a uniquely American art form honing both the musicality and movement skills of the dancer. Joffrey’s NYC Tap Dance Summer Intensive has been curated to connect the past to the present and reach into the future of where Tap is going. Classes will include fundamentals and historic forms i.e. Soft-Shoe, Buck and Wing, Classical Tap, Class Acts, Jazz Tap, and Hoofing, into more contemporary techniques such as Rhythm Tap, Funk Tap and the most recent fusion of Tap and Hip Hop.
Students will learn the history of tap, as well as gain insight into its future. Daily classes are designed to perfect tap technique, and expand the student’s knowledge of tap repertoire. A tap improvisation class will encourage students to experiment with their own movement and sound ideas. The NYC summer tap dance intensive is designed to give the serious tap student the full picture of what tap was and has evolved into in the 21st century. Small classes will provide the students individual, personal attention, directed corrections and the opportunity to pick the brains of the Tap Masters.
The NYC tap dance summer intensive offers a full week of tap instruction with small class sizes and individual instruction and correction from our seasoned tap dance professionals. At the end of the week, students will perform for their parents in Joffrey’s “Tap Spectacular”, an in-studio performance. Classes will be held in one of 4 locations around the city, dancers should check their schedules at the beginning of the week to determine the exact locations.
Instructors for Joffrey’s Tap Spectacular include Artistic Director Jo Matos, who brings more than 35 years of dance instruction and choreography experience, 11 of those with the Joffrey. Other master instructors include Kurt Csolak, Felipe Galganni, Joey Cullinane, Samara Seligsohn, all experts in tap.
