MUSICAL THEATER NYC

New York City (Ages 9 – 25)

Musical Theater

Students will have the opportunity to study current Broadway shows in the studio and experience seeing them live on stage in our unique core curriculum studies.  The Musical Theater Summer Intensive features innovative classes in acting, singing, and dancing that will help produce the future stars of musical theater.

Daily classes will be in offered ballet, musical theater/jazz, acting, and vocal classes taught by present day Broadway performers. We are currently working with Broadway performers in An American in Paris, Matilda, Wicked, The King and I, and Aladdin to provide daily classes in ballet, musical theater/jazz, acting, and vocal classes.

Specialty classes will be taught in stage makeup, acrobats, stage combat, auditioning, tap, resume and audition materials preparation, and other useful Broadway related classes. Dancers will attend the featured Broadway shows at the end of each week. Our core curriculum classes are to study with  Broadway shows Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, and Matilda with current cast members. We are offering the unique experience to see their instructors live on Broadway stage after spending a week with them in the studio.

The thrill of being at Broadway’s doorstep while refining technique and building confidence makes the Joffrey Ballet School’s musical theater summer intensive ideal for the student eager to one day see their names lit up on Broadway.

In a DanceSpirit interview, Prescott states:

Though programs in musical theater or circus arts might sound very specific, Prescott encourages dancers of all styles to try them and broaden their idea of what they can do with their training. “Ballet has been a huge part of musical theater history,” he says. “People like Agnes de Mille and Jerome Robbins, and now Christopher Wheeldon and Justin Peck. There are opportunities as a tap dancer on Broadway, there are opportunities as a hip-hop dancer with shows like Hamilton.”
