The Musical Theatre London/West End program is designed for students who are interested in experiencing the Broadway of Great Britain. West End Theatre is the only other place in the world that rivals Broadway as the epicenter for musical theatre. Students will receive classes in Theatre Dance, Jazz, Ballet, Acting, and Vocal Training from West End and Broadway performers while studying a current West End Theatre show. Enrollment of no more than 35 students. These spots will be filled on a first come first serve basis.

Also situated in the heart of Central London, Arthur Tattersall House is a University College London student accommodation. Pineapple Studios are approximately 15 minutes away if walking or three stops away in the Northern line of London´s Underground system. Oxford Street, Britain’s premier shopping street is a ten-minute walk away, whilst Soho, Theatreland and China Town are also within walking distance.

Bedrooms are double and have hand wash basins. Bathrooms and toilets are communal and located on each corridor of the building. Bed linen and towel are provided.

No roommate requests available for London. Housing facilities are single bedrooms.

Breakfast is included for students in housing. We do not offer an additional meal plan, but there are abundant number of restaurants and stores to buy food for every price range near the studio and housing facilities.

In housing

Please drop off your dancer at Ramsay Hall on Sunday between 2:00 and 6:00 PM.

Please pick up your dancer on Saturday at Ramsay Hall. We encourage you to assist your dancer so you can be on your way home prior to 10:00AM.

After Check-in on Sunday evening the dancers will have a mandatory housing orientation.

If your dancer needs to arrive outside the specified schedule, please notify us in advance at mmontano@joffreyballetschool.com


Not in housing

Please drop off your dancer at Pineapple Dance Studios entrance or near by. Parents will not be allowed to observe classes during the program. Please pick up your dancer on time, we are not responsible for dancers outside our program hours.

Orientation and arrival times depend on whether or not you will be staying in our housing facilities. Please check the Orientation Times section for full details. Please join us Monday morning at the start of your intensive for the opportunity to meet the JBS Staff and review your schedules.

What to Bring

  1. Bedding: Twin XL Sheets, Blankets, Pillows. Bed linen is provided by Ramsay Hall. You are also welcome to bring your own.
  2. Bathroom Essentials: Towels, Shower shoes. A towel is provided by Ramsay Hall
  3. Toiletries: Toilet Paper, hand soap, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, toothbrush,
    toothpaste, and other personal toiletry items. Please note you can purchase these items locally upon arrival if you prefer.
  4. Dance Attire: Dance clothes, shoes, and other related supplies.
  5. Recreational clothes: jeans, shorts, t-shirts, sandals, etc.
  6. Electronics: Alarm Clock. If you bring other electronic devices don’t forget to bring the converters and adapters for your chargers! UK has a different plug and voltage than USA.
  7. Computers, iPods, iPads, and other valuables at your own discretion.
  8. Cell Phone: Every student is required to bring or purchase upon arrival, a personal mobile phone. This phone number must be provided to the RAs or Joffrey staff upon arrival. Students should download Google Maps.

What Not to Bring
The following items are prohibited in Joffrey housing and may be confiscated if found in your

  1. Toasters, ovens, coffeemaker, or any outside cooking appliance not provided by the facility.
  2. Candles or incense
  3. Space Heaters or fans
  4. Halogen lights
  5. Pets of any kind
  6. Alcohol
  7. Anything that produces a flame/spark, fireworks, sparklers.
  8. Drugs, tobacco, including eCigarettes; illegal substances of any nature.

Roommate request

Unavailable; housing facilities are single bedrooms.

There is a Lost and Found table set-up during check-out on Saturday. Please check this section for any misplaced items before you leave. If you realize that you did not make it home with an item, please call Customer Service at +1 888.438.3808 and leave a message describing the missing item(s). All claimed items will be returned C.O.D. Items will be held for two weeks, and after that time they will be donated to charity. Please label all items and make sure that you have all your belongings before leaving. JBS is not responsible for lost or broken items.

We provide a fun, choreographed experience for all dancers attending this intensive.

An In Studio Showing will be held at the end of the week on Friday.

We know you are anxious to find out everything you need to know to prepare for your intensive(s) and we cannot wait to share all the details! All dancers are required to complete our Online Pre-Check In form prior to arrival. All dancers will need to DocuSign their Pre-Check In packet, print and bring it with them to orientation/housing check in.

We do not offer Airport Pick Up/Drop Off at this location.

Non-Refundable Tuition and Other Fees

It is the policy of the Center for American Dance / Joffrey Ballet School that all tuition and other fees paid shall not be refunded at any time, regardless of the time of cancellation by the student or student’s parents or guardians or whether the relevant program has commenced. In the event that the relevant program has been cancelled by the Center for American Dance / Joffrey Ballet School, the School will make best efforts to move the student into a substantially similar program; in the event that no such substantially similar program exists, the School will issue a full refund.
In some instances we are able to offer a credit towards Joffrey programing which must be used in 1 calendar year. The Registration Fee, ALL DEPOSITS, and all Processing Fees are non-refundable and will be forfeited.
Prior to May 1st, a credit for any payments already made may placed in the dancer’s name to be used for future Joffrey programming. All payments made at the time of withdrawal are non-refundable. Any future payments still due to the school will be waived at the school’s discretion.
After May 1st, all payments are non-refundable. If a dancer’s withdrawal is due to injury or illness, and certified by a Dr’s. note, a partial credit may be used towards next summer at the Joffrey Ballet School’s Discretion. Credit can not be issued for housing and meal plans payments.

The Joffrey Ballet School prides itself in taking photos of the dancers that represent their superb experience and will utilize the photos for its website and or marleting and advertisig purposes. Dancers and parents are welcome to take photos of the dance experience. When attending the program you consent to the use of your photography in our website and marketing materials.

As part of this program, dancers will be going to see one show in the West End. Considering this program runs for a week and students will be undertaking intensive training every day, no other official activities are planned in the evenings other than the show.

For students staying in housing, our staff might organize extra activities.

Information on West End performace date and time will be given out closer to the beginning of the program.

Friday: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Matthew Prescott, born and raised in Idaho, graduated high school from Interlochen Arts Academy and attended the inaugural year of the Joffrey/New School University in New York City. In 2000, he joined the Joffrey Ballet for a number of years before setting out as a freelance artist.

Working as a freelancer, Matthew has worked and performed with Donald Byrd’s Spectrum Dance Theater, Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet, Ballet NY, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Amanda Miller, The Suzanne Farrell Ballet, The Alabama Ballet, Armitage Gone! Dance, BalletX, The Lyric Opera of Chicago, Morphoses the Wheeldon Company, and Dance Theatre of Harlem. Matthew was featured in Robert Altman’s film The Company.

Matthew has choreographed works performed by Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Chamber Dance Project, the Joffrey Ballet School, BalletX, Interlochen Arts Academy, for Misty Copeland for Prince’s Coming to America 2010 Madison Square Garden performances, as well as the Vail International Dance Festival.

Matthew was the Resident Choreographer on the national tour of Billy Elliot as well as performing the roll of Older Billy. Matthew made his Broadway debut on Broadway in the cast of Phantom of the Opera.

In a DanceSpirit interview, Prescott states:

Though programs in musical theater or circus arts might sound very specific, Prescott encourages dancers of all styles to try them and broaden their idea of what they can do with their training. “Ballet has been a huge part of musical theater history,” he says. “People like Agnes de Mille and Jerome Robbins, and now Christopher Wheeldon and Justin Peck. There are opportunities as a tap dancer on Broadway, there are opportunities as a hip-hop dancer with shows like Hamilton.”


Maximilien Baud

Maximilien Baud was trained at the School of American Ballet for 10 years under the guidance of Peter Martins, Jock Soto, Peter Boal, Olga Kostritzky, and Andrei Kramarevsky. While a student, he performed with the NYC Ballet, and was part of the original cast of two world premieres: Organon by Elliot Feld and Scenes De Ballet by Tony Award winning choreographer Christopher Wheeldon.

Mr. Baud began his professional career with the Carolina Ballet under Robert Weiss. There he would work with choreographers such as Lynne Taylor Corbett, Robert Weiss, Damian Woetzel, and Christopher Wheeldon. In 2005, Mr. Baud joined the Pennsylvania Ballet under the directorship of Roy Kaiser and would perform principal roles in ballets by Jerome Robbins, Peter Martins, George Balanchine and many more.

In 2009, Mr. Baud had the opportunity to work on the Oscar nominated film for Best Picture, Black Swan, by Darren Aronofsky. In 2010, Mr. Baud would join the national/international tour of Billy Elliot, the Musical performing the role of Older Billy, and was nominated for a Helen Hayes Award for Best Supporting Performer in a Musical. He was in the ensemble of the national tour of Flashdance the Musical based on the iconic 80’s film under the directorship of Tony Award-winning choreographer, Sergio Trujillo. Maximilien has reprised his role of Older Billy in regional productions of Billy Elliot with the MUNY, North Carolina Theater, and the North Shore Music Theater Company.

Mr. Baud, along with Matthew Prescott, are the co-directors and co-creators for the Joffrey Ballet School Musical Theater Summer Intensives in New York City and London. This year they are also debuting an all-new program, the Joffrey Las Vegas Summer Intensive. Together they run M Squared Talent LLC, which is a production company that produces the most up-to-date dance education in America. Mr. Baud also holds the position of Co-Artistic Director and Consulting Producer for Joffrey Elite, which is a documentary series on YouTube’s AwesomnessTV that features a group of dancers from the Joffrey Ballet School Trainee Program.

Mr. Baud has had the opportunity to teach master classes at numerous dance studios around the world, as well as coach the young Billy’s from Billy Elliot. Currently, he is on the staff at The Joffrey Ballet School and Ballet Academy East. While directing and teaching, Mr. Baud enjoys enriching the lives of dancers through discipline and a passion for the arts.

George Hankers

George trained at Dance Industry Studios before gaining a full scholarship at Laine Theatre Arts.

His theatre credits include; Mungojerrie in CATS (South Korea and Taiwan), Ricky in Summer Dreaming (Embassy Theatre), Aerialist in Come Fly With Me (Royal Caribbean International), Dance Captain in Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast (The Capitol, Horsham).

Television; Backing Dancer for Hard-Fi (ITV) and Angelina Ballerina (HIT Entertainment).

Ballet; Snow White, The Secret Garden, The Canterville Ghost and A Little Princess (Sadler’s Wells).

George was coached by Dame Gillian Lynne DBE prior to his performance at the Young Dancers Gala (The Lowry, Salford) and was the recipient of the Murielle Ashcroft Award for Artistry in 2011.

As a choreographer, George has created Award Winning pieces for Dance Industry Studios, and reimagined the Cell Block Tango for Miranda Sings Live! at Leicester Square Theatre.

Katelyn Prominski, originally from Washington, DC, now lives in New York City. She is an inaugural teacher for the Joffrey Ballet School Musical Theater Summer Intensive. Her master class and judging credits include Broadway Connection, Greater Buffalo Youth Ballet, Dance Cavise, Shake the Ground, and Dance Masters of America. Katelyn also serves as ballet master for Joffrey Elite, a Youtube docu-series featuring students at the Joffrey Ballet School. TOUR: Flashdance the Musical (Ballet Dancer), Dirty Dancing (Penny u/s) REGIONAL: Kennedy Center’s Little Dancer (Étoile), MUNY’s A Funny Thing Happened… Forum (Panacea), Reagle’s Singin’ in the Rain (Girl in the Green Dress), Westchester Broadway Theater’s Annie Get Your Gun.
