What to Bring
Your room will fill up quickly; please bring only what you need. Also, keep in mind that items can
be purchased upon arrival at nearby stores.

  1. Bedding: Twin XL Sheets, Blankets, Pillows
  2. Bathroom Essentials: Towels, Shower shoes, hair dryer
  3. Toiletries: Toilet Paper, hand soap, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, toothbrush,
    toothpaste, and other personal toiletry items.
  4. Dance Attire: Dance clothes, shoes, and other related supplies.
  5. Recreational clothes: jeans, t-shirts, swimsuit, sandals, etc.
  6. Electronics: Alarm Clock. Computers, iPods, iPads, and other valuables at your own
    discretion. All dorms are Wi-Fi equipped. Don’t forget to bring the chargers!
  7. Cell Phone: Every student is required to bring or purchase upon arrival, a personal mobile phone. This phone number must be provided to the RAs upon arrival. Students should download Google Maps and Embark NYC.

What Not to Bring
The following items are prohibited in Joffrey housing and may be confiscated if found in your
room.

  1. Toasters, toaster ovens, coffeemaker, or any outside cooking appliance not provided by JBS.
  2. Candles or incense
  3. Space Heaters
  4. Halogen lights
  5. Pets of any kind
  6. Alcohol
  7. Anything that produces a flame/spark, fireworks, sparklers.
  8. When not in use, lighters for your pointe shoes MUST remain in your dance bag.
  9. Drugs, tobacco, including eCigarettes; illegal substances of any nature

We will do our best to honor roommate requests that are completed and remain within the established guidelines.

A dancer may request up to a maximum of three roommates for a total of four dancers in a chain. Please note that all roommate requests must be completed by both sets of parents, at least fourteen days prior to arrival.

Please note that confirmed roommates will be in the same room, but we are unable to accommodate requests for a bunk assignment near another dancer. Dancers are assigned their beds by their Resident Assistants based on numerous factors including medical conditions, sleepwalking, etc. and these assignments may not be changed during the arrival process.

Roommate Requests will be asked during Registration.

The Joffrey Ballet School has setup a very simple and orderly PickUp/Drop Off process. Please drop off your dancer at least 15 minutes before the start of class to warm up. When picking up your happy dancer, please arrive promptly at the end of classes. Please note, after initial check-in, the dancers will have a mandatory orientation.

Please check the Orientation Times section for full details. Please join us Monday morning at the start of your intensive for the opportunity to meet the JBS Staff and review your schedules.

Orientation occurs every Monday. Please be on time! Here the Artistic Director will meet you, share policies, and answer any questions parents or students may have. Students will receive name tags, schedules, and groups at orientation.

There is a Lost and Found table set-up each Friday. Please check this section for any misplaced items before you leave. If you realize that you did not make it home with an item, please call Customer Service at +1 888.438.3808 and leave a message describing the missing item(s). All claimed items will be returned C.O.D. Items will be held for two weeks, and after that time they will be donated to charity. Please label all items and make sure that you have all your belongings before leaving. JBS is not responsible for lost or broken items.

We know you are anxious to find out everything you need to know to prepare for your intensive(s) and we cannot wait to share all the details! All dancers are required to complete our Online Pre-Check In form prior to arrival. All dancers will need to DocuSign their Pre-Check In packet, print and bring it with them to orientation/housing check in.

We do not provide transportation from the airport for this intensive.

Non-Refundable Tuition and Other Fees

It is the policy of the Center for American Dance / Joffrey Ballet School that all tuition and other fees paid shall not be refunded at any time, regardless of the time of cancellation by the student or student’s parents or guardians or whether the relevant program has commenced. In the event that the relevant program has been cancelled by the Center for American Dance / Joffrey Ballet School, the School will make best efforts to move the student into a substantially similar program; in the event that no such substantially similar program exists, the School will issue a full refund.
In some instances we are able to offer a credit towards Joffrey programing which must be used in 1 calendar year. The Registration Fee, ALL DEPOSITS, and all Processing Fees are non-refundable and will be forfeited.
Prior to May 1st, a credit for any payments already made may placed in the dancer’s name to be used for future Joffrey programming. All payments made at the time of withdrawal are non-refundable. Any future payments still due to the school will be waived at the school’s discretion.
After May 1st, all payments are non-refundable. If a dancer’s withdrawal is due to injury or illness, and certified by a Dr’s. note, a partial credit may be used towards next summer at the Joffrey Ballet School’s Discretion. Credit can not be issued for housing and meal plans payments.

The Joffrey Ballet School prides itself in taking photos of the dancers that represent their superb experience and will utilize the photos for its website and or marketing and advertising purposes. Dancers and parents are welcome to take photos of the dance experience. When attending the program you consent to the use of your photography in our website and marketing materials.

They are all paid positions. Positions will be filled at a first come first serve basis to qualified candidates – please submit application early for best consideration. Final candidates who are offered a position will be required to undergo a background check prior to finalizing the hiring process.

The Joffrey Ballet School is seeking hard-working, ethical, caring, organized, teamwork minded, detail-oriented individuals interested in perusing a career in Arts Administration. Interns would gain valuable experience working within an office environment, assisting with daily operations of the school’s variety of summer programs and supporting the administrative staff with customer assistance.

Interns assist the Interns Supervisor and the Joffrey Ballet School in the administration of the summer programs. This is a tremendous learning experience. Be ready to work hard and long hours. Interns MUST HAVE AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE! The Joffrey Ballet School is seeking hard-working, ethical, caring, organized, teamwork minded, detail-oriented individuals interested in perusing a career in Arts Administration. Interns would gain valuable experience working within an office environment, assisting with daily operations of the school’s variety of summer programs and supporting the administrative staff with customer assistance.

Joffrey Ballet School seeks hard working and enthusiastic individuals for Head Resident Advisors in New York City, Dallas, San Francisco, and Athens. This is a temporary, full-time position, with live-in and on-call responsibilities. The Head RA is responsible for supervising housing staff and students who are residing in their assigned dormitory during the summer school session. The Head RA will organize transportation of students to and from the dormitory and Joffrey studio locations and activities. The Head RA will organize and supervise staff schedules and work assignments in the dormitory. The Head RA will ensure that all staff schedules, policies, transportation schedules, major disciplinary decisions and scheduled staff meetings are presented to the Director of Resident Life for review and approval.  The Head RA will be responsible for communication between their assigned dormitory and Joffrey administrative staff, faculty, students, and parents.

The Resident Assistant (RA) is responsible for assisting students who are staying at Joffrey Ballet School during the summer school session. The Resident Assistant helps dancers feel at home in housing, organize fun activities, problem solve, ensure dancers are following the rules. RAs will also collaborate with the Joffrey administration to ensure the well-being of all residents. Applicants must be able to work within the artistic culture of Joffrey, have the ability to give and receive constructive feedback, be able to problem solve, have excellent verbal and written communication, and have good organizational and analytical skills.

Dance and Residence Life experience preferred. We background check each applicant to ensure the safety of our dancers. Joffrey Ballet School seeks enthusiastic and hard working individuals for several Resident Advisor (RA) positions in New York City, LA, Dallas, San Francisco and Athens. This is a temporary, full-time position with live-in and on-call responsibilities. The RAs report to the Head RA. The RAs manage the daily operations of the Residence Halls and maintain an active leadership role to cultivate a positive and supportive community to the residents. The RAs serve as a role model and resource to students by assisting in artistic and personal growth.

Joffrey Ballet School seeks enthusiastic individuals for several Chaperone positions in New York City, Dallas, LA, San Francisco, Miami, and Athens. This is a temporary, full-time position with live-in and on-call responsibilities. A Chaperone is responsible for supervising 6-8 students ages 12 to 14. Their primary responsibility is babysitting the younger students, including maintaining an evening schedule/bedtime, morning routine, cleaning schedule, and enforcing the rules in the dormitory. Chaperones work with Head Chaperone to ensure that these students are supervised to and from classes, during lunch, on activities, shopping and in the dormitory. Chaperone ensures that students are safe at all times, eating responsibly, and adjusting to housing at JBS.

Applicants must be able to work within the artistic culture of Joffrey, have the ability to give and receive constructive feedback, be able to problem solve, have excellent verbal and written communication, and have good organizational and analytical skills. Dance experience preferred.

Matthew Prescott

Artistic Director of the NYC Musical Theatre Intensive

Also a NYC Ballet and Pre-Professional Instructor.

Matthew Prescott, born and raised in Idaho, graduated high school from Interlochen Arts Academy and attended the inaugural year of the Joffrey/New School University in New York City. In 2000, he joined the Joffrey Ballet for a number of years before setting out as a freelance artist. Working as a freelancer, Matthew has worked and performed with Donald Byrd’s Spectrum Dance Theater, Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet, Ballet NY, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Amanda Miller, The Suzanne Farrell Ballet, The Alabama Ballet, Armitage Gone! Dance, BalletX, The Lyric Opera of Chicago, Morphoses the Wheeldon Company, and Dance Theatre of Harlem. Matthew was featured in Robert Altman’s film The Company. Matthew has choreographed works performed by Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Chamber Dance Project, the Joffrey Ballet School, BalletX, Interlochen Arts Academy, for Misty Copeland for Prince’s Coming to America 2010 Madison Square Garden performances, as well as the Vail International Dance Festival. Matthew was the Resident Choreographer on the national tour of Billy Elliot as well as performing the roll of Older Billy. Matthew made his Broadway debut on Broadway in the cast of Phantom of the Opera.

Maximilien Baud

Associate Director of NYC Musical Theater

Maximilien Baud; Trained at the School of American Ballet for 10 years under the guidance of Peter Martins, Jock Soto, Peter Boal, Olga Kostritzky, and Andrei Kramarevsky. While a student, he performed with the NYC Ballet, and was part of the original cast of two world premieres: Organon by Elliot Feld and Scenes De Ballet by Tony Award winning choreographer Christopher Wheeldon.

Mr. Baud began his professional career with the Carolina Ballet under Robert Weiss. There he would work with choreographers such as Lynne Taylor Corbett, Robert Weiss, Damian Woetzel, and Christopher Wheeldon. In 2005, Mr. Baud joined the Pennsylvania Ballet under the directorship of Roy Kaiser and would perform principal roles in ballets by Jerome Robbins, Peter Martins, George Balanchine and many more. In 2009, Mr. Baud had the opportunity to work on the Oscar nominated film for Best Picture, Black Swan, by Darren Aronofsky. In 2010, Mr. Baud would join the national/international tour of Billy Elliot, the Musical performing the role of Older Billy, and was nominated for a Helen Hayes Award for Best Supporting Performer in a Musical. He was in the ensemble of the national tour of Flashdance the Musical based on the iconic 80’s film under the directorship of Tony Award-winning choreographer, Sergio Trujillo. Maximilien has reprised his role of Older Billy in regional productions of Billy Elliot with the MUNY, North Carolina Theater, and the North Shore Music Theater Company.

Mr. Baud, along with Matthew Prescott, are the co-directors and co-creators for the Joffrey Ballet School Musical Theater Summer Intensives in New York City and London. This year they are also debuting an all-new program, the Joffrey Las Vegas Summer Intensive. Together they run M Squared Talent LLC, which is a production company that produces the most up-to-date dance education in America. Mr. Baud also holds the position of Co-Artistic Director and Consulting Producer for Joffrey Elite, which is a documentary series on YouTube’s AwesomnessTV that features a group of dancers from the Joffrey Ballet School Trainee Program.

Mr. Baud has had the opportunity to teach master classes at numerous dance studios around the world, as well as coach the young Billy’s from Billy Elliot. Currently, he is on the staff at The Joffrey Ballet School and Ballet Academy East. While directing and teaching, Mr. Baud enjoys enriching the lives of dancers through discipline and a passion for the arts.

Ben Cook

Ben Cook is currently starring in the Broadway premier of Mean Girls. Previous Broadway and National Tour credits include Tuck Everlasting, Newsies, Billy in Billy Elliot, and Ragtime. His film and television credits include 30 Rock, Veep, House of Cards, Law and Order SVU, Disney’s Newsies the Musical, and most recently he plays Aaron Fisher in HBO’s upcoming Joe Paterno film starring Al Pacino. @bentylercook

Greta Jones

Greta Jones is a professional dancer and model.  Born and raised in Iowa, she studied ballet from an early age, and graduated from the Joffrey Ballet School/New School University in NYC. Greta performed as a freelance artist with Madison Ballet Theater, contemporary companies Etre Art and Quixotic Fusion, and as an aerialist with Voler Aerial Ensemble.  She also enjoyed touring internationally with Jean Ann Ryan Productions. Greta relocated to Las Vegas to perform in the classic showgirl production, Jubilee!, where she was a featured dancer and full show swing. Greta has performed with The Killers, Britney Spears, Wayne Newton, Donnie & Marie Osmond, Matt Goss, and DJ Tiesto.  Greta has appeared in numerous local and national television shows and commercials. Most recently, Greta performed for 2 seasons as a dancer at Crazy Palace in Karlsruhe, Germany

Michael Dameski

Michael has trained in all facets of the performing arts making him one of the most versatile and sought after performers in Australia.

In 2008 he made his musical theatre debut in the Australian touring company of Billy Elliot. After two successful seasons in Sydney and Melbourne, Michael was invited to perform the leading role on Broadway as well as throughout the United States on the second National Tour. In recognition for his outstanding performance as Billy Elliot he was the recipient of two prestigious awards, the Green Room and the Australian Dance Award.

Michael has had the pleasure of gracing the Australian TV screens on Network Ten’s hit show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, where he performed his phenomenal dance for your life solo that went viral across the globe and scored him the title ‘Winner of SYTYCD Australia 2014’. Michael is thrilled to be pursuing his career in the United States making his television debut as a guest performer on FOX’s ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ US Finale. He is a determined and passionate performer who always strives for his best. Michael has established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the performing arts industry.

Bobby Newbury

Bobby Newberry is renowned for his talent, innovation and drive in the dance industry. He paves the way with his inventive choreography and is in constant demand to teach master classes worldwide, including Europe and Asia. His credits include Pussycat Dolls, Girlicious, Missy Elliott, Kelis, Pink, Eminem, Jody Watley, Eva Longoria for Bebe, Strawberry Blonde, Aaron Kwok, Jenie Tracy, Flava, Taylor Dane, and many others.

Bobby’s choreographic ingenuity continues to fire on all cylinders as he continues to challenge himself and his students here and abroad!

Lex Ishimoto

Lex Ishimoto, originally from Irvine, California, began working at an early age, performing on the national tour as “Billy” in Billy Elliot The Musical. Lex became the grand finalist at The Spotlight Awards in 2015 and earned the title “Teen Male Best Dancer of the Year” at The Dance Awards, as well as being titled “Elite Protégé” on The pulse on Tour 2014, touring all over the United States and internationally. Also winning the “Youth American Grand Prix Award” at the 2015 YAGP Los Angeles regionals and placed as a finalist at the National YoungArts Foundation in 2016. In addition, he has trained at Boston Ballet for two years and won the Dance Awards title again in 2016 but this time as “Senior Male Best Dancer of the Year” . Following that, he joined Travis Wall’s Shaping Sound company and became touring with JUMP Dance Convention as a choreographer and assistant. In 2017, he was crowned “America’s Favorite Dancer” on So You Think You Can Dance season 14.

Tiffany Baker

Tiffany was born and raised in Alabama. She started her classic dance training at a very young age and was privileged to train at Gus Giordano’s Studio in Chicago, Broadway Dance Center in New York; after which she moved to Los Angeles under scholarship at Tremaine Dance Studio. She was very fortunate to perform with many different amazing artists both on screen and onstage: U2, Kidd Rock, Black Eyed Peas, Usher, Outkast, Back Street Boys, No Doubt, Limp Bizkit, Eminem, Nelly, Michael Caine, Alice Cooper, Hans Klock, Siegfried and Roy, and many more. She has toured Europe with ‘Grease the Musical’, as well as the States with Hoku Ho and 98 Degrees.

Tiffany shifted into becoming a choreographer with projects like “Britney Spears: Femme Fatal Tour”, ‘Farm Club’ on USA Network, ‘Storm’ at Mandalay Bay, ‘James Bond: PlayStation Game’ for EA Sports, ‘Black Kat: PlayStation Game’ for Westwood Studios, ‘Generations’ for DM Creations, ‘Coyote Ugly and Centrifuge’, and many corporate events for various Las Vegas Casinos. Currently Tiffany resides in Las Vegas were she runs her own business, The Unspoken Studio, a teacher at Nevada Ballet, and as the Dance Coach for MJ One with Cirque du Soleil.
