Michael Dameski

Michael Dameski

Join Michael at Joffrey’s Las Vegas Jazz & Contemporary Summer Dance Intensive

World of Dance runner-up, Michael Dameski is a 23-year old dancing prodigy who has trained in all facets of the performing arts making him one of the most versatile and sought after performers in Australia. While Michael had success in Australia, it was his time on reality TV show World of Dance that really put him on the world stage. And we are excited to have Michael as one of our instructors for our Joffrey Las Vegas Jazz & Contemporary Intensive where we fuse concert dance with the commercial world of the west coast.

In 2008 he made his musical theatre debut in the Australian touring company of Billy Elliot. After two successful seasons in Sydney and Melbourne, Michael was invited to perform the leading role on Broadway as well as throughout the United States on the second National Tour. In recognition for his outstanding performance as Billy Elliot he was the recipient of two prestigious awards, the Green Room and the Australian Dance Award.

In February 2014, Dameski appeared on the Australian version of So You Think You Can Dance and on 1 May 2014 won the competition, crowned Australia’s Favourite Dancer for 2014. He was also an original cast member of the Dream Dance Company established by Marko Panzic.

Michael has had the pleasure of gracing the Australian TV screens on Network Ten’s hit show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, where he performed his phenomenal dance for your life solo that went viral across the globe and scored him the title ‘Winner of SYTYCD Australia 2014’. Michael is thrilled to be pursuing his career in the United States making his television debut as a guest performer on FOX’s ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ US Finale. He is a determined and passionate performer who always strives for his best. Michael has established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the performing arts industry.

In 2018, Michael was featured in an article on titled “Michael Dameski: Making Waves from Australia to the U.S.” where he spoke about his life before dance, his dance career, competing in So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) and his first breakthrough in Billy Elliot the Musical on Broadway.

“Before dance, I was a soccer player. My father was a famous soccer player, so I was very much into sports. My sisters were my main influence and what sparked my interest in dance. I would come home from soccer practice, and they’d be dancing around the house, and I started joining them as something fun to do. If you’re itching to go for something but you’re unsure or second guessing yourself, let go of that fear,” he says. “The best things can happen from spontaneous moments and taking a risk. You never want to have a moment when you feel like you’ve grown enough, and you’re done. Keep maintaining what you’ve worked on your whole life because there are things that are even more profound that will come your way.”

Most recently Michael has toured with the Disney’s Newsies the Musical, and is currently touring with Travis Wall’s Shaping Sound Co. And he recently recorded his own video titled “Don’t Judge Me” which is a representation of his teenager life.

Lex Ishimoto

Lex Ishimoto

Train with Lex at Joffrey’s Summer Jazz and Contemporary Dance Intensive in Las Vegas

Lex Ishimoto, originally from Irvine, California, began working at an early age, performing on the national tour as “Billy” in Billy Elliot The Musical where he was nominated for outstanding lead actor at the Helen Hayes Awards. Before his appearance on “SYTYCD,” Ishimoto already had a career that most dancers twice his age would have been proud of accomplishing.

Lex became the grand finalist at The Spotlight Awards in 2015 and earned the title “Teen Male Best Dancer of the Year” at The Dance Awards, as well as being titled “Elite Protégé” on The pulse on Tour 2014, touring all over the United States and internationally. Also winning the “Youth American Grand Prix Award” at the 2015 YAGP Los Angeles regionals and placed as a finalist at the National YoungArts Foundation in 2016.

In addition, he has trained at Boston Ballet for two years and won the Dance Awards title again in 2016 but this time as “Senior Male Best Dancer of the Year”. Following that, he joined Travis Wall’s Shaping Sound company and became touring with JUMP Dance Convention as a choreographer and assistant.

In 2017, Lex was crowned “America’s Favorite Dancer” on American dance competition show, So You Think You Can Dance season 14.

DanceInforma recently interviewed Lex Ishimoto about partnering with Joffrey Ballet, what he expects dancers to get out of his classes and why Joffrey is a great learning experience for dancers.

What do you hope people get out of your masterclasses?

“The dance scene is quickly evolving in a rapid state. I believe that it’s important for students to know the roots, foundation and intention of our craft while also catching up to the present algorithm – where we start to mix and match the different elements and styles together to evolve.”

Why do you think Joffrey Ballet School is a great school and learning experience for dancers?

“I believe Joffrey Ballet School is wonderful because it also puts in the effort to preserve other styles outside of ballet as well. While I’m a firm believer that ballet is the center core of our foundation, I think it’s just as important to widen our views toward other styles as well.”

Having heavy influence from the underground/urban hip hop scene, classical ballet, concert dance, and commercial world, lex strives to be a dominant force in the dance world refusing to be labeled in a special genre. With his self-made slogan/brand “STAYLEGENDARY’ Lex continues to push boundaries to be acknowledged as a unforgettable artist of his generation, and also to inspire those around him to do the same in the highest level possible.
