Michele McConnell

Originally from Indianapolis, Michele McConnell has lived in northern New Jersey for 20 years. She is a graduate of Butler University with a Music Education degree and minors in Speech, Communication, and Theatre. Ms. McConnell’s performance resume includes musical theatre, opera, concert performance, cabaret, professional chorus, and touring productions.

Ms. McConnell has been performing in the Broadway cast of The Phantom of the Opera since February 2010, and performing the starring role of Carlotta since July 2011.  In March 2016, Ms. McConnell played her 1,701st performance in the role, earning the distinction of becoming the actress to play the opera diva for the longest time in the Broadway production.

Highlights of Ms. McConnell’s performing career include the national tour of Camelot with Robert Goulet, New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players at NY City Center, DiCapo Opera, Mobile Opera, Missouri Symphony, and Sacramento Music Circus. She has traveled to over 115 countries performing on luxury cruise ships with her husband of 20 years, baritone Duane McDevitt. Ms. McConnell is a proud member of Actors Equity Association.

In addition to her performance credits, she has been an adjunct faculty member since 2010 in the Music, Dance, & Theatre department at New Jersey City University. Her Master Class resume includes Butler University, Manhattan School of Music, University of Indianapolis, Berklee College of Music, and the On and Off Broadway Company workshops in NYC.

Ms. McConnell is the current President of the Board of Trustees for Skyline Theatre Company in Fair Lawn, NJ.  Serving on the board since 2008, she has worked and volunteered in all areas of the company, from the box office and administration to set production and performance.

Ms. McConnell’s business interests also cross out of the theatre. In 2014, Ms. McConnell accomplished the distinction of being the first Broadway performer to become an Independent Sales Director with Mary Kay, Inc. Her unit of over 50 members spans the country and continues to grow.   Her business accolades with Mary Kay include 6 times on the National Court of Personal Sales, 27 quarters as a “Star Consultant”, the “Triple Crown” award for new directors, and the “Go Give Award” for selfless service towards sister consultants.

Her strongest passions lie in opportunities that allow her to work hands-on to motivate, educate, and inspire others. Her other affiliations include the American Federation of Teachers, National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Butler University Alumni Steering Committee for the Metro New York Area, a lifetime membership of Alpha Phi Fraternity, and she is a 25-year+ member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
