Karen Brown I was reared in Augusta, Georgia, the eldest daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Allen N. Brown. My ballet training began with Ron Colton at the Augusta Ballet and I subsequently became a Principal Ballerina with the Dance Theatre of Harlem enjoying a 22-year career. In 1995 I became the Director of Education for the Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education, the largest dance institution in the Southeast. In 1997, I founded Karenina, an organization that provides consultation and mentorship through all stages of career development for emerging and established artists. In 2006, I completed 6 years as the Artistic Director of Oakland Ballet, one of my proudest accomplishments. May 2013, I earned a Bachelor’s Degree at St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA. As an Assistant Professor of Dance at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia from 2007 – 2013, I taught all levels of ballet. I am an ABT® Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 7 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. I earned a Certificate of Completion in the Vaganova Syllabus with John White, a comprehensive pedagogue course 1st, 2nd and 3rd years in Bryn Mawr, PA. I am most proud of a 2010 Bessie for my performances with Paradigm. Recently, I founded the En Pointe Plus Refining Institute offering semi-private coaching sessions for dancers utilizing new computerized motion analysis technology.
