Chris Coates is a New York City based dance/teacher/choreographer who as dance professionally for 12 years. He has toured Europe and the U.S. with Jeff Amsden’s “A Few Good Men…..Dancing”, danced for many Broadway Dance Center and Steps on Broadway teachers including Tracie Stanfield and Geoffrey Doig Marx and has worked with Joe Lanteri, NYCDA, and ONSTAGE NY for the past 7 years. A Georgia native, Chris trained in Atlanta for 10 years before starting his professional career performing on Royal Caribbean Cruise Line’s Navigator and Explorer of the Seas.
Currently he is a member of Oliver and Teri Steele’s company, STEELEDANCE, who’s New York season just premiered at the Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater in February. In addition, Chris has performed with many other modern companies around the country, including Salvatore La Russa Dance Theater in NYC and Project 7 and Sideways Contemporary Dance Company in Atlanta, GA. He has done many industrials and commercials including ones for Wal-Mart (choreographed by Ray Leeper), the E.L.C.A, and New York Sports Club. Chris also danced with recording artist and Academy Award Winner Jennifer Hudson and performed in the Annual Easter Bonnet Competition-Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
As a guest instructor, he has taught at Peridance, The Joffrey Ballet School in NY and spent 5 years as a choreographer and teacher for The Joffery Summer Jazz and Contemporary Intensive in New York City. There he continues his contemporary modern dance training and travels around the country to teach and choreography for many dance studios and schools.
