Carlos Guerra

CARLOS MIGUEL GUERRA, a native of Cuba, began his training at the Professional School of Ballet and Plastic Arts in Camaguey, Cuba. In 1996 he joined the Professional Ballet Company of Camaguey as a Principal Dancer and two years later joined the Ballet Company of Santiago in Chile, where he held the rank of Principal Dancer for the following two years. Upon visiting the United States in 2000, he was invited by American ballet icon Edward Villella to join Miami City Ballet as a soloist. He accepted, and was named principal dancer in 2003, dancing with the company until spring 2016. During his tenure he performed most of the lead male roles in MCB’s vast repertoire, including a great variety of Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, and Twyla Tharp works. He has performed with the company for The Kennedy Center’s prestigious Balanchine Celebration, The Vail International Dance Festival, and the NYC City Center’s Fall for Dance series of performances, and was also featured in Miami City Ballet’s debut on PBS’s Great Performances “Dance in America: Miami City Ballet Dances Balanchine and Tharp”. His professional accolades have earned him features in numerous magazines, including Selecta, Ocean Drive, and Complot, and he was named one of the 100 most influential people in Florida by Florida International Magazine in 2005. In 2010, he was named one of the top ten creatively influential people in South Florida by The Miami New Times. Recently, Mr. Guerra was the proud recipient of the 2015 Miami Life award in the category of “Best Male Ballet Dancer”. He now assumes a new role as he joins his wife and dance partner, Jennifer Kronenberg, in the co-Founding and the Artistic Direction of South Florida’s newest contemporary ballet company, Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami. The couple has also recently assumed the direction of Mandelstam Dance Academy in South Miami.
