Who is allowed to purchase tickets?

Tickets for Ticketed Extra Activities are available to all students as well as their family and friends.

 

Students are welcome to attend any of the Ticketed Extra Activities during the Summer Intensives. They are not restricted to the activities during their registered week.

 

*Tickets to the 4th of July Firework Spectacular and the 4th of July Dorm Party are only available to Housing students.

 

Traveling

All activities are chaperoned by staff. 

 

Staff will escort Housing students, from the dorm/studio to the activity, attend the activity with them and escort them back to the dorm. In the event that a Housing student will not have enough time to travel back to the dorm after class, they will need to pack for the day accordingly.Housing students (on the meal plan) departing from the studio must pick up their pre-prepared dinner during breakfast. Students who do not pick up a meal at breakfast will not have a meal saved for them. 

 

Departure from the dorm/studio: Students must arrive at the departure location at the assigned time. Please note that for some activities, you will only have a few minutes between class and the departure time to eat and get dressed.

Arrival at the venue: Commuter students who did not travel with the group, must meet at the designated spot by the assigned time.

During the activity: All students should listen to staff and should be exhibiting proper etiquette. Students are not allowed to be on their phone or talk during a performance, climb over seats, etc. A staff member will address them if they do not behave accordingly. After the activity: ALL STUDENTS (Housing and Commuter) must meet at the designated spot where attendance will be taken. Commuter students are not allowed to leave until they are dismissed and accounted for. Housing students must travel back to the dorm with the group.

If a Commuter student is not present after distribution of tickets is complete for a show, their name will be written on the back of the ticket and left at the box office. Please note that some shows do not allow late seating and that patrons who arrive late to an activity other than a show will not be able to attend the activity. 

 

JBS does not officially honor seating requests. Traditionally the group tickets are reserved together. Some seats might not be located in the same row or section as the rest of the group. Although seating requests are not guaranteed, we will try our best to honor them. Tickets left at the box office for late comers might not be located together or with the rest of the group.

Only students who are registered for the Musical Theater Intensive are allowed to attend. 

 

Family and friends of Musical Theater students are allowed to purchase tickets to the show that their student is attending.

Commuter students are required to travel with the group, unless they are 14 and older and a guardian signs them out at the studio at the end of the day, or they’re 18 and older and they sign themselves out.

 

Housing students will not have enough time to travel back to the dorm after class and will need to pack for the day, accordingly. Housing students must pick up their pre-prepared dinner during breakfast. Students who do not pick up their dinners at breakfast will not have a meal saved for them after the show.

*All Broadway musicals are assigned by the Directors. Dancers will receive more information about their assignment the week before their intensive. Requests for specific productions are not allowed. Students will only attend one Broadway Musical a week.

GENERAL QUESTIONS FOR ACTIVITIES IN NYC

When are the activities scheduled?

All activities take place on weekday evenings and Saturdays. 

 

None of the activities are scheduled at the same time. 

 

The Broadway shows for the Musical Theater Intensive will not be scheduled on the same evenings as Ticketed Extra Activities. Dancer’s attending the Intensive will be able to attend their assigned shows, as well as extra activities. 

 

None of the activities should conflict with classes or rehearsals. If an additional rehearsal is scheduled and conflicts with an activity, the dancer will be excused.

 

Curfew Extensions

Students (20 and younger) attending activities will automatically have a curfew extension. Legal Guardians do not need to submit a request for a curfew extension.

 

All Housing Students (20 and younger) must check in for curfew after returning from the activity.  

 

Communication

Information and instructions concerning activities will be posted at the dorm and studios during the week of the program and discussed during Housing Orientation.

 

Emails with detailed information will be sent no later than the day before the activity for Ticketed & Musical Theater Intensive Activities.

 

Although information is posted as far in advance as possible, some communication concerning instructions and detailed information may be delayed at times due to many variables such as staff and escort arrangements, rehearsal schedules and many other tangible details.

What if a student did not receive any information by the night before the activity?

If a student purchased a ticket for an activity and did not receive any information, they should reach out to a staff member. Do not wait until the day of the activity to confirm information. 

 

If a dancer is unsure about arrangements and instructions concerning an activity, it remains their responsibility to retrieve and confirm that information. 

 

Students can: Text/call the RA on duty, ask the RA on duty/during curfew, ask the intern at the studio, email events@joffreyballetschool.com.

 

JBS will not be liable for a student that missed an activity due to uncertainty concerning arrangements.

 

Dancers who did not follow instructions as far as departure times and destinations are concerned, will not be accommodated. Claiming to be uniformed will not be accepted as an excuse.

MUSICAL THEATER INTENSIVE INFORMAL PERFORMANCES IN NYC

We conclude each week with a showing of the original production numbers created in coordination with a Broadway show. See one of kind routines where students live out their dreams of singing, dancing, and acting on a NYC stage. It’s a culmination and celebration of all the hard work and inspiration of the week. It’s our chance to share our and give back to our families and friends who support us as performers. All are welcome.

Where can I purchase tickets for the Musical Theater Intensive:  Informal performances?

Patrons must sign up to attend the performance. Sign up will be available at the studio on the Monday and Tuesday before the performance.

Cost: Free

A one night only performance event for students who attend the 5th and final week of the intensive. This performance will happen on a New York City stage with students performing on stage with Broadway performers. This unique event will be curated by Matthew Prescott and Maximilien Baud and give students the once in a lifetime opportunity to perform on a New York stage with current stars of the Broadway world. (Students interested in being a lead in the Joffrey Broadway Spectacular will need to attend the final 3 weeks)

SUMMER OF HIP HOP INTENSIVE PERFORMANCE IN NYC

At the end of the three week Summer Intensive students will have the opportunity to showcase all the styles they have been learning from the Masters at the Showcase Performance held at the Marymount Theater in NYC.  The styles they will perform range from Breaking, Freestyle, House, Jazz/Funk, Street, Grumping, Locking, Pop’n, commercial and others forms.  

This showcase performance is a unique event and a highlight to the Summer Intensive that you don’t want to miss.  The students will leave knowing they have brought their Hip Hop knowledge and skills to another level and will be proud and confident in their performance.
