NYC DORM ACTIVITY: Flatiron Building, Union Square & Dylan’s Candy Bar 2019

Flatiron Building, 175 5th Ave
New York, NY 10010 United States

The Flatiron Building was built in 1902. This is one of the most beautiful and interesting buildings in Manhattan, located between 22nd and 23rd streets, at the intersection of Broadway and Fifth Avenue. Daniel Burnham was the architect of the building. At any given moment, a visitor to Union Square might encounter street vendors selling homemade tchotchkes; busking musicians; and break-dancers—and that's to say nothing of the visitors and residents milling through the park, unleashing their pooches in the dog run and stocking up on produce at the expansive greenmarket. The park captures much of the City's diversity and has an energy all its own—in some way, this is downtown's Times Square. The National Historic Landmark certainly has a long tradition as a gathering place (as its name might suggest): in 1861, following the fall of Fort Sumter at the hands of the Confederacy during the Civil War, the square hosted what was, at the time, the largest public assembly in the nation's history. The park remains as vital as ever—and the area that immediately surrounds it, also known as Union Square, is a prime place to grab a quick meal, see your favorite band, find a rare book and take in art for free. Ever wanted to get the inside scoop on the #1 candy emporium in the world? Now’s your chance with the famous Dylan’s Candy Bar! Upon arrival, your candy tour specialist will guide you around the shop and answer all of your questions. You will also get to enjoy delicious candy, fudge and ice cream tastings. At Dylan’s Candy Bar, there is a Magic Candy Factory 3D Printing Shop where guests can design their own edible candy. It’s like a modern-day version of the Willy Wonka factory.
